Heard Loud & Clear
Our recent guest speaker spoke about recent studies which showed a clear link between dementia and loss of hearing.
It wasn't until a recent visit to an audiologist by one of our members where he realized how much his hearing had deteriorated and asked the professional to come along to speak at our club.
The real shock to all who attend was that it has now been proven that there is a strong link between hearing loss and dementia and the earlier you get your hearing checked the better chance you have of avoiding early onset dementia.
Most people leave their hearing loss until they have trouble hearing at all in a noisy environment, and even leave their hearing aids in the drawer, embarrassed to wear them.
One of the major issues most people have when thinking about hearing aids is that you hear the background noise as much as the person you are talking to, but the quality of hearing aids have greatly improved, and this is no longer an issue.
The message is, if you feel you are not hearing as well as you used to, by getting hearing aids earlier can greatly improve the chances of further hearing loss and maybe avoid dementia.
